Eastern Medical College & Hospital (EMCH) is a private medical college located at Kabila, Burichang Upazila in the Comilla District of Bangladesh’s Chittagong Division, right beside the Dhaka–Chittagong Highway. Since opening its doors in 2005, the college has grown into one of the more established private medical institutions in the country, running a five-year MBBS programme alongside a 600-bed teaching hospital.

History

EMCH was founded in 2005 by a group of directors who set out to build a private medical college paired with a modern, fully functioning teaching hospital. Over the past two decades the campus has expanded to more than 5 acres of land with roughly 704,000 sq. ft. of built-up space, spread across separate academic, hospital, and hostel buildings. Eligibility Criteria

For Bangladeshi (Local) Students

• Combined minimum GPA of 9.00 in SSC/O-Level and HSC/A-Level or equivalent
• Minimum GPA 4.00 separately in each of SSC and HSC
• Science background in both SSC and HSC with Physics, Chemistry and Biology
• Minimum GPA 4.0 specifically in Biology at HSC/equivalent level
• Candidates with O-Level/A-Level results must hold an Equivalence Certificate from DGME, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare
• Must qualify in the centralised MBBS admission test conducted under DGME, scoring at least 40 marks in the MCQ test

For Foreign Students

• Combined minimum GPA of 7.00 in SSC/O-Level and HSC/A-Level or equivalent
• Minimum GPA 3.50 separately in each of SSC and HSC
• Minimum GPA 3.50 in Biology at HSC/equivalent level
• O-Level/A-Level holders need an attested Equivalence Certificate from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Dhaka
• Applications are generally accepted between September and December, submitted through the Bangladesh Embassy or Mission in the applicant’s home country

Admission Process

• Local students sit the centralised MBBS admission test coordinated by DGME, and are placed via the National Merit List published by DGME.
• Foreign students first get their SSC/HSC (or equivalent) certificates attested by their home country’s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then apply through the Bangladesh Embassy or Mission in their country.
• DGHS, Dhaka issues the required Equivalence Certificate, collectible via the Bangladesh Mission abroad or directly from the DGHS office.
