Universal Medical College & Hospital (UMCH) is a private medical college and hospital located at Peacock Square, New Airport Road, Mohakhali, in the heart of Dhaka. Its attached hospital has been serving patients since 1996 — originally as Aysha Memorial Specialized Hospital — while the medical college itself was established in 2013, going on to admit its 10th MBBS batch in 2024. History

The site began in 1996 as Aysha Memorial Specialized Hospital, a private healthcare facility in Mohakhali. Following a change in ownership and management in 2004, the institution repositioned itself as a multidisciplinary tertiary-care provider. In 2013, following the establishment of its affiliated medical college, it was renamed Universal Medical College and Hospital. UMCH received a “Covid Hero” award for its response during the COVID-19 pandemic, and hosts an annual “Gorbini Ma” award ceremony honouring mothers of notable achievers. In January 2020, a foundation stone was laid for a new 500-bed facility to expand the hospital’s capacity.

Eligibility Criteria

Admission follows the criteria set by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for all Government and private medical colleges in Bangladesh.

For Bangladeshi (Local) Students

• Combined minimum GPA of 9.00 in SSC/O-Level and HSC/A-Level or equivalent
• Minimum GPA 4.00 separately in each of SSC and HSC
• Science background with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
• Must qualify in the centralised MBBS admission test conducted by DGHS, with placement via the National Merit List
• O-Level/A-Level applicants require a valid equivalence certificate

For Foreign (Including Indian) Students

• Completion of 10+2 (or equivalent) education with at least 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology
• Minimum GPA of 7.00 overall
• Indian applicants must qualify in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)
• Equivalence certificate required for O-Level/A-Level qualifications
