Khulna Medical College (KMC) is a government medical college located at Chhoto Boyra, Khulna, near the city’s inter-district Bus Stand. Its attached teaching hospital predates the college itself — locally it is still often called the “250-Bed Hospital,” reflecting its capacity before the college was established. Today the hospital has grown to 500 beds, and for many years KMC was the only medical college serving Bangladesh’s south-western region.

History

Before 1989, the site operated only as the “250-Bed Hospital.” That year, plans were made to convert it into a full medical college, and KMC was born — starting with just a handful of students and minimal infrastructure. The college’s first admission batch began on 8 July 1992, a date still marked annually as “KMC Day.” Over the following decades, academic, research, and residential facilities were steadily added. KMC was historically affiliated with the University of Rajshahi alongside nine other government and private medical colleges; since the establishment of Khulna Medical University (KMU) in 2021, KMC now falls under KMU’s academic supervision for the Khulna Division.

Eligibility Criteria
